The Stork

The Stork
1738 N. Orange
Los Angeles, CA 90028

Hours: Tuesday – Saturday 8 PM – ……

A few of my close friends recently opened up probably one of the hottest restaurant/lounges in Los Angeles.  I am not saying this because they are my friends, but this 1950’s New York theme lounge serving tasty tapas style food with a room full of hot girls and celebrities make this the next “IT” place in Hollywood.  Definitely call for a reservation because that is the only of way getting in and be prepared to wait a while to book a reservation, because from what they told me there is already weeks worth of reservations, so unless you know one of the owners be patient, it’s worth the wait!

Howdy’s

Howdy’s Taqueria Malibu

3835 Cross Creek Rd Ste 3
Malibu, CA 90265-4978
Phone: (310) 317-4757
Hours: 8 a.m.-9 p.m

On my Malibu trek yesterday I stopped off at the Malibu Country Mart to grab some dinner with friends, our first stop was Taverna Tony, but the owner was being a dick about giving us a table since we didn’t have a reservation, which is understandable, except for the fact he was screaming at one of my friends for no good reason!  We left there and walked over to Howdy’s Taqueria, probably the best place to get Mexican food in the area.  Howdy’s is a taco hut where you go after a long day at the beach and want to sit outside on their wooden benches and enjoy the great weather.  I was pleasantly surprised how good the food was, and how they have the best Mexican pizza ever, check it out.

An afternoon in Malibu

July 28, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Yesterday I headed out to a party in Malibu thrown by Fingerprint PR for the 40th Anniversary of BIg Mac and though I didn’t eat the famous sandwich, (obviously not, Iam vegetarian) I still enjoyed the party at one of the best pieces of property in Malibu.  Check out the pics from the party. Happy B-day Big Mac!

16 Handles, Handle it!

16 Handles
153 2nd Ave
New York, NY 10079
http://www.16handles.com/

Move over all the fro-yo competition in NYC because 16 handles is about to handle the competition.  This self serving eco-friendly(wooden spoons!!) yogurt shop has 16 flavors of yogurt and probably over 35 toppings to choose from.  At $0.46 cents an ounce it is much cheaper than its competition and honestly tastes better.  Plus, Solomon Choi President of 16 handles is a friend of mine from Granada Hills High School and USC, so we need to support our fellow young entrepreneurs.  He has more locations opening in NYC so be on the look out!

Cipriani Downtown

Cipriani Downtown is a great way to experience the Cipriani dining experience without being to formal and stuffy.  My friends and I ate here on a late summer Friday night and sat outside to enjoy the warm weather.  The downsides of this place is that unless you are a mover and shaker of NYC be prepared to wait even if you have reservations, this place is always crowded during peak dinner times.  However, once you sit down the food and the service is excellent.  The environment is definitely more European and more than likely you will sit next to someone really obnoxious like we did, but it was highly entertaining hearing the bullshit that came out of this guys mouth.  Also be prepared for a very big bill if you plan to eat a full meal and drink!

New York , New York, Pizza, Pizza

July 25, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I just finished up a week in NYC and a week full of pizza, here my favorite places of this most recent trip, keep in mind that I only eat cheese pizza.  Another interesting fact is that a slice of cheese pizza is around 460 calories, I found this out because NYC fast food places need to visibly post the number of calories for everything they sell.

Bay Cities

Bay Cities Italian Deli
1517 Lincoln Blvd
Santa Monica, CA 90401-2776
Phone: (310) 395-8279
http://www.baycitiesitaliandeli.com/

HOURS:
Tues-Sat 9-7 Sunday 9-6 CLOSED MONDAYS

For a vegetarian Bay Cities Deli preset sandwiches are not that great, however if you choose your own selection of bread, cheeses and vegetables it is probably one of the best deli sandwiches in this city.  This past Saturday I enjoyed their classic American potato salad and a sandwich on a french roll with spicy jack cheese, American and muenster topped with tomatoes, onions and mayonnaise.  Bay Cities has a great deli style grocery store and cool outdoor patio to enjoy the Santa Monica weather.  This is a great Saturday afternoon heading to the beach lunch spot so give it a try this weekend!

A great new kosher falafel place has opened in downtown Los Angeles, it is quick and has a lot of interesting dishes.  Check out the Avocado Hummus, really good!  The ambiance is nothing special but the food is fresh and very tasty, and for under $10 you will be really full, so go try it!

Great User Comment!

July 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Here is a comment a reader posted in response to the Newsroom Cafe situation, I thought it was very interesting and helpful!

The News Room didn’t build a reputation by serving bad food while he was there. In fact, all the “stars” ate there because of Chef Eddie J’s commitment to health and great food!  Why else would it have become so popular? People are not fools and would not have kept coming back and bringing their friends and family back if it had not been Great Food.  The new owners obviously do not have the same commitment to excellence and attention to detail that Chef Eddie did and does have in his new place,

Interim Cafe, on 6th and Wilshire.

I know he has a high level of taste, and a commitment to serve clean healthy food no matter what.
These restauranteurs that bought the Newsroom, obviously don’t have the same commitment.
Never fault the originator of all the great recipes and the whole concept of the News Room. he is still committed to serving healthy happy food for us all.  I suggest if you are missing Chef Eddie J’s food try his new place, still in transition, but serving fine organic food while it goes through it’s re-design.
